Overview

Promoted in 1956 with the objective of providing higher education to women in post-independence India, Lady Shri Ram College is widely acclaimed as India’s finest all-women’s college for liberal arts education. Sited in the heart of south Delhi on a compact 15-acre campus, LSR today boasts an enrollment of 2,000 students pursuing 16 study programmes, mentored by 150 faculty.

LSR is recognised as an institution of higher education which nurtures intellectual development coupled with vibrant extra-curricular activity, outreach initiatives and civic engagement. According to a college spokesperson, “An LSR education enables women to reconcile excellence with humanity, to celebrate diversity and redefine notions of success. Our focus is on liberating women to look beyond traditional horizons. Our students are made to understand that with the power of knowledge, comes the responsibility to translate it into creative citizenship. LSR students are empowered with professional competence, ability to assume positions of leadership with ease, and shatter inhibitory glass ceilings.”

Campus

LSR boasts contemporary infrastructure including a newly refurbished, computerised user- friendly library with internet access and 98,000 books, 5,000 bound volumes and audio-visual cassettes; arguably the best students cafeteria in Delhi University and a counseling and placement cell. Sports training in chess, table tennis, lawn tennis, basketball, golf, volleyball besides martial arts and judo are also available. For out-of-town students, the immaculate LSR campus houses a residence for 300 women students with an in-house library and dispensary.

Placements:

The LSR placement cell functions as a link between students and recruiters, and is headed by five coordinators, two sub-coordinators, a research and training head and a treasurer, supported by an efficient team of 31 internship and placement department representatives, a dedicated team of 25 Members and 11 core team member who assist the coordinators in logistical arrangements.

The LSR placement cell organizing seminars, workshops, pre-placement talks and recruitment opportunities in association with reputed organisations like T.I.M.E, Teach for India, Perspectico and alumni of the college. Soft-skills workshops on personal/case interviews and group discussions and CV building sessions, stress management workshops and test preparation sessions by T.I.M.E. are conducted to help students with the placement process.

Recent placement highlights- 2020: A total of 485 students registered for the 2019-20 placement drive, where the average CTC stood at INR 9.40 LPA while the highest CTC was as high as INR 30 LPA. Top recruiters in the placement drive included Accenture, Ernst & Young, Bank of America Citi Bank, Samsung and Deloitte.

Admission

Undergraduate Admission

Selection Criteria: Academic merit (marks obtained in 10+2 exams).
Eligibility:
10+2 from a recognised board with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.

Admission Procedure:

  • Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form from the official Delhi University website along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
  • The university will release a course-wise cut-off list based on academic merit in 10+2 examinations.
  • Candidates meeting the cut-offs may proceed with the verification of documents and payment of fees to confirm their admission.

Undergraduate Admission- B.El.Ed.

Selection Criteria: CIE-conducted entrance exam score.
Eligibility:
10+2 from a recognised board with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.

Admission Procedure:

  • Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form from the official Delhi University website along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
  • Candidates will have to appear for the entrance exam conducted by CIE at the DU main campus.
  • A merit list will be released based on candidates’ performance in the entrance exam. Selected candidates may proceed with the verification of documents and payment of fees to confirm their admission.

Postgraduate Admission-

Selection Criteria: DUET entrance scores.
Eligibility:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.

Admission Procedure:

  • Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form from the official Delhi University website along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
  • Candidates will have to appear for the DUET entrance exam.
  • Candidates with bachelor’s degrees from Delhi University will be selected based on the marks obtained in graduation.
  • A merit list will be released based on candidates’ performance in the entrance exam (50% seats) and on DU-graduates’ marks in graduation (50% seats). Selected candidates may proceed with the verification of documents and payment of fees to confirm their admission.

Achievement

LSR has obtained the second position in latest NIRF survey (2020), conducted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

LSR College for Women was ranked third in the EducationWorld India Non-autonomous Colleges Rankings 2020-21.

Accommodation

The LSR residence hall provides on-campus accommodation facilities to its students. The Residence Hall has always been the epicentre of initiative and energy. The denizens of the Residence Hall have always worked hard to provide the much needed support for scripts, rangoli, music and performances. A new home away from home, there is always continuous negotiation about the ground rules of living together.

The residential house comprises 200 rooms housing nearly 300 students from diverse backgrounds of various parts of the country and other foreign lands, along with the Assistant Warden and the Superintendent, international exchange students and a flat for guests, as and when they come to college, giving it an eclectic ethos that serves only to strengthen it. Facilities provided in the residential hall include an air-conditioned and furnished students’ common room with a television and a sound system, with a seating capacity of approximately 200, laundry and kitchen facilities, a well-stocked infirmary with a wheelchair, an oxygen cylinder, blood pressure monitor, blood sugar monitor and basic medicines, along with visits by the college nurse and a resident’s library stocked with over 300 books and magazines of various genres.
