DPS R.K. Puram hosts English language festival

Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram hosted the inter DPS English language festival, ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns - 2012,’ on October 6, 2012, under the aegis of the DPS Society. Ashok Chandra, the chairman of the DPS Society was the chief guest at the event. Deepa Agarwal, author and poet and Vishnu Som, editor and senior anchor, NDTV 24x7 were the guests of honour. Renu Mital, director, DPS Society, P.C. Bose, member, DPS Managing Committee, Bindu Sehgal, principal, DPS Vasant Kunj,  Archana Pental, headmistress, DPS Vasant Vihar and Anita Singh, headmistress, DPS R.K. Puram were present on the occasion along with the overall coordinators of the festival.

390 students from around 38 schools participated in the festival. Various competitions like brochure designing, bookmark making, storytelling, skit on proverbs, news reporting and turncoat were held on the occasion and were judged by eminent personalities from the media, entertainment and education industry.

The valedictory function began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by a welcome song and a mesmerizing dance performance by the school dance team on ‘Hallelujah’. The principal, Dr. D.R. Saini, welcomed the guests and the students. Addressing the gathering, Vishnu Som  stressed on the importance of simplicity of language for ‘effective communication’ and  highlighted the importance of social sciences, urging students to consider them as a career option.

Ashok Chandra and Renu Mital both stressed on the importance of such events to promote the love for English language among the students. A slideshow presented glimpses of the various activities held during the day following which the results were announced. DPS R.K. Puram won the ‘Design a Brochure’ and ‘Skit on a Proverb’ while DPS Noida won the ‘Story Telling’ and ‘Turncoat’ events. DPS Digboi bagged the first prize in ‘News Reporting’ and DPS Kalinga won the ‘Make a Bookmark’ event.  

The festival was a huge success and a great experience for all present.
