The National School of Drama (NSD), Agartala has introduced a theatre-in-education course, a first of its kind in Asia. Altogether 20 students have been admitted into the one-year course, of which eight students are from Tripura. An interview board, headed by the coordinator of the course, Kirty Jain, former director of NSD, selected the candidates, said Anuradha Kapur, NSD director.
The course was inaugurated by Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar on August 9.
Sarkar said initially the course would be conducted at the Nazrul Kalakshetra, though the state government is scouting for land to build a new setup with all modern facilities. NSD's branch was opened in Tripura on November 17 last year with assistance from the state government.
