University-of-Southampton-Campus

One-fifth of the world’s population suffers from one or the other allergy, with their condition worsening each day. The Faculty of Medicine at the UK-based University of Southampton, which is among the top 100 universities in the world as per the QS World University Rankings 2019, offers a specialised MSc in Allergy programme to address the rise in the number of people suffering from allergic diseases globally. Southampton is the only university in the UK to offer this programme on a full-time basis. The university is currently inviting applications for the September 2019 intake of this programme. Although application deadline is June 30, 2019, with 25 seats available for the programme, early applications by March 15, 2019 are advisable.

The MSc Allergy programme is taught at the World Allergy Organization Centre of Excellence, one of the only two such centres in the UK. The programme is recognised by the World Allergy Organization, accredited by the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and quotable through the Medical Council of Hong Kong. Students enrolled for the programme will be based at one of the leading teaching hospitals in the UK – the University Hospital Southampton.

The programme is designed to help healthcare professionals, including GPs, hospital-based doctors, nurses, dietitians and other healthcare professionals, to gain a greater understanding of allergic diseases and to be able to translate this knowledge into their everyday practice. It aims to provide effective education and training in the mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and management of allergic disease. It is an integrated course comprehensively covering both paediatric and adult allergy.

Students will be accommodated on the “step on, step off” programme, which allows them to start the programme and complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Allergy, a Postgraduate Diploma or the full MSc degree in Allergy. There are opportunities to tailor the course to allow the student to plan his/her specific programme route at the start of the course to best meet one’s career aspirations.

Programme Duration: One year full time (Can be extended to 2-5 years on part time basis)
