Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram is a coeducational government day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Established in 1964 under the able guidance of the founder principal Smt. Gomathy Krishnanand, Kendriya Vidyalaya Pattom offers education from class I through XII. Kendriya Vidyalaya Pattom is run by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
The mission of Kendriya Vidyalayas is to cater to the educational needs of children of transferable Central Government employees including defence and para-military personnel by providing a common programme of education, to pursue excellence and set the pace in the field of school education, to initiate and promote experimentation and innovations in education in collaboration with educational bodies such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) etc and to develop the spirit of national integration and create a sense of Indianness among children.
Measuring over five acres, the campus houses 50 well furnished class rooms with provision for various technology aided learning tools, resource centre with computer, LCD projector, 29″ TV, DVD player over head projector, three computer labs for primary section, middle section and secondary classes and well equipped labs for physics, chemistry, biology and biotechnology and a junior science lab.
The school also houses a children’s park and an adventure park for primary section equipped with a merry go-round, ladder and slide, rainbow, jingle gym, Jack and Jill, revolving drum, parallel bars, balancing bar, portable semi-circular sea-saw etc.
The sports facilities include basket ball court, badminton court, volley ball court, football and cricket field and a skating rink.
Affiliated with CBSE, New Delhi, the school offers classes from class I through XII. The school’s teaching methodology comprises integrating computer aided learning of different subjects, workshops and special programmes on guidance and counseling, value education, NAEP program etc. The school’s resource centre is used extensively to impart lessons for all classes.
