Overview

Established in 1985, The Magic Years follows the Montessori method of preschool education. It is run by The Magic Years Educational Society and is spread across half an acre. The preschool hosts 200 children from over 18 countries.

The Magic Years is staffed by Montessori trained teachers who introduce children to play materials and activities encouraging them to experience and self-learn. After careful observation, new and challenging tasks are assigned to children. The emphasis in the learning process is on exploration, discovery and self-learning.

Campus

The Magic Years’ campus offers scientifically designed play equipment and Montessori play materials to stimulate exploration and discovery.

The school hosts a sports centre that operates five days a week. Games offered at the sports centre include mini tennis, football, cricket and basketball for children in the age group of 3 ½ – 7 years between 4.30p.m. – 5.30p.m. All teaching staff are trained at the ‘Bhupathi Nike Tennis’ Village Bangalore. The fees for this program is Rs.2000/- per month.

Academics

The Magic Years focuses on 4 areas:

1. Development activities

(a) Exercises of everyday life

(b) Exercises of grace and country

Activities such as sorting, cleaning, polishing, how to greet, etiquette while sneezing, enabling children to take care of themselves and introducing him/her to everyday tasks.

2. Sensorial activities

Sensorial motors activities sensitize children to colors, shapes, temperature, sounds etc through experimental learning and discovery.

3. Language

Language is introduced through stories, rhymes and songs. The child is encouraged to express herself with new words introduced everyday. At the age of 3 and 1/2 years the child can converse English fluently. By matching letters with sounds the child becomes conscious of the fact that language is made up of sounds.

4. Arithmetic

Activitis such as counting, help develop numeracy skills.

Puppet shows are held regularly and help develop language, thinking, listening and conflict resolution skills.

Infancy program (two days a week) – for 18 months as on April 1

Tuesday – Thursday

9a.m. to 11a.m – Summer

9a.m. to 12 noon – Winter

Infancy program (three days a week) – for 2 years as on April 1

Monday-Wednesday-Thursday

9a.m. to 11.30a.m – Summer

9a.m. to 12 noon – Winter

Pre-school program (five days a week) –  for 2 ½ years on April 1

Monday to Friday

8.30a.m. to 12.30 – Summer

9a.m. to 1:30p.m. – Winter

General Information

Admission

Infant (18 months to 2years) applications in the 1st week of February

Pre-School (2 ½ years) applications by February 15

Admission forms can be downloaded from the school website www.themagicyears.com from the December 15 – 30.

Admission forms are also available at the school on December 31, between 9 am and 12 noon and all applications must be submitted by 12 noon on the same day.
