Overview

Mayo College Girls’ School, Ajmer is a girls’ boarding school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). Founded by Mayo College in August 1988, the school provides a unique opportunity for all round education. It has the security of the rich Mayo tradition and an ethos conducive to developing each child’s potential to the fullest. The school aims that its students acquire a broad range of skills, love of learning, tolerance, respect for the beliefs of others and basic values of truth and honesty. Excellent facilities for games and extra-curricular activities indicate the emphasis laid on the development of the child outside and beyond the classroom.

Campus

The campus of Mayo College Girls School is well equipped with the modern infrastructural facilities such as spacious ventilated classrooms with the latest teaching aids, a rich library, state-of-the-art computer labs, science labs and playgrounds.

There are six boarding houses, three science and computer laboratories, resource centre, a geography laboratory, NIIT Nguru’s MathLab, an audio – visual room, an activity block, a home science laboratory, library, robotic lab, R.O Softener Plants, a Saraswati temple for contemplation and two swimming pools. The School boasts of a grand auditorium and an open-air stage and a school mess. There are basketball and tennis courts, hockey, soccer, handball, athletic fields, a shooting range and a riding area.

Academics

The academic year followed by the school is from April to March. The medium of instruction is English. The school year consists of two terms. Class periods are 40 minutes each, seven periods a day, six days a week for 240 working days per year. The council conducts two public examinations in March each year –one at the end of standard X for which it awards the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and the other at the end of standard XII for which it awards the Indian School Certificate (ISC). 

Subjects offered include mathematics, general science, home science and hygiene, physics, chemistry, biology, history and civics, geography, economics, commerce, French, Sanskrit, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi and Punjabi. The curriculum also includes craft, needlework, dance, music and SUPW. At the class XI and XII level three streams are offered. Along with a compulsory English paper the student must opt for at least four or five other subjects from the stream she has chosen.

A system of continuous assessment is followed where a girl’s academic performance is determined by her performance in unit tests, class tests and examinations. At the end of each term, full reports are sent to the parents/guardians. The Principal’s decision in matters regarding placement and promotion of a girl is final.

Admission

The common aptitude analysis for admission to Mayo College Girls’ School is held in the third week of November every year at various centres in India. The analysis evaluates the candidate in English, Hindi and mathematics. Parents are notified in the month of August preceding the year in which admission is sought. Only the students who are eligible as per their previous class of study and who are registered for admission are allowed to take the aptitude analysis. The merit list is drawn on the basis of performance in aptitude analysis and those who qualify are asked to appear for an interaction in the month of December, January or February. Admissions are finalized on the cumulative performance of aptitude analysis and the interaction. The new entrants join in the month of April. 

The common aptitude analysis is held only for admission up to class IX. For entrance to class XI, admission is considered on the basis of the class X board exams results. Admission is subject to merit and vacancy and a student generally requires a minimum of 90 percent to get admitted. 

Achievement

Mayo College Girls’ School was honoured as a member of the World Leading Schools Association (WLSA).

In the 2012 survey of India School Rankings; the school was ranked at the number three position in the All-India Rankings and as the number one school in the state of Rajasthan.

Accommodation

The five houses named after the princesses of Rajasthan houses the girls in dormitory style rooms. There are house mistresses who take care of the girls.
