The School Krishnamurti Foundation India is a co-educational day school affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). Founded by J. Krishnamurti in 1973, it is the third of the Krishnamurti schools in India and is known for sensitive and creative education in Chennai’s academic world.

Today, it is a full-fledged day boarding co-educational school with students in junior, middle and senior schools and various distinctive programmes at all levels. The school has an ambience that has been crafted to facilitate meaningful interactions between adults and students.

The school works with the vision that a student who approaches the final years in school would have developed:

  • A sense of integrity, dignity and confidence to face life’s challenges.
  • A sensitivity to relate rightly to the earth and to all life.
  • An ability to learn on one’s own and take responsibility for learning.
  • The capacity to make choices of future activities in consonance with one’s deepest predilections.
  • The intelligence to remain a sensitive human being with openness.

Campus

The day-boarding campus comprises classrooms, the school kitchen and dining hall. Co-curricular facilities are provided as well.

Academics

The school generally has two terms running from mid-July to mid-April with one term break in November. Students are taught all regular subjects. The school adopts a variety of teaching-learning processes that allow students to approach learning with understanding at their own pace. These processes are discussed among staff and reviewed and modified from time to time.

The students of classes I to VII learn in mixed age groups at junior school and middle school. These learning groups are changed every year. The students of classes VIII to X learn in the same age groups as do students of classes XI and XII who study different combinations of subjects.

The medium of instruction is English. The students learn both Tamil and Hindi till class VIII and continue to study either one as an examination subject at class X. Classes XI and XII have a general studies course that examines contemporary issues of social, psychological, economic and environmental significance. This involves critical reading, watching documentaries, thinking and discussion.

The School is affiliated to Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations at New Delhi and the students appear for the ICSE and ISC in classes X and XII respectively.

Students of all classes have field studies through day trips in junior, middle and senior school. These move from nature walks and neighbourhood studies to historical and geographical studies to participating in the work of people in different parts of the country.
