Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata is a day school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). It also offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme by International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) for classes XI and XII. It was founded by B. M. Birla on January 3, 1952. The foundation stone of the school was laid by the then Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. B. C. Roy on December 9, 1957. Modern High School created history in 1968, when Malabika Chakravarty – a humanities student, broke all records and stood first among all the groups in the higher-secondary examinations.
The Modern High School campus is well-equipped with various academic and co-curricular facilities. In addition to the regular classrooms, the campus also includes a computer centre (two computer laboratories), five laboratories namely for physics, chemistry, biology, geography and home science, junior and senior school libraries, arts and crafts centre, sports grounds and a multipurpose hall. There is also a canteen on-campus, an audio-visual room, a conference room and a gymnasium.
Academic courses provided by the school include the ICSE (class IX and X) and ISC (class XI and XII) examinations offered by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).
Under the international programme the school has chosen the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) exams by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) for classes XI and XII and the IGCSE curriculum offered by the Cambridge International Certificate of Secondary Education (ICE) for classes IX and X.
