Overview

The Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) was founded in 1914 to commemorate the visit of Queen Mary in 1911-12. It was named after Lady Hardinge, wife of the then viceroy, who first took the initiative to start a medical college for women, observing that the lack of a separate medical college for women made it difficult for Indian women to study medicine those days.

Since 1950, the college has been affiliated with the University of Delhi. In view of considerable demand, post-graduate courses were started in 1954 in affiliation with the Punjab University, and later with the University of Delhi in 1956.

Campus

LHMC Delhi is spread over 60 acres of well-landscaped greenery. The campus hosts 24-hour accidental emergency services, an OPD and special clinics. Facilities include two auditoriums, nine lecture theatres, laboratories for different subjects and a fully air-conditioned library. CCTV cameras are installed throughout the campus to ensure safety and security. 

The campus also houses a gymnasium and swimming pool. The hostel has four different blocks to accommodate students and a mess that remains open from 7:30 am to 10:00 pm.

Academics

The college offers degree and diploma programmes to medical aspirants at the undergraduate (UG) as well as postgraduate (PG) level. The post-graduate courses are open to both male and female candidates. 

It also offers B.Sc (Nursing) programme for women.
