Overview

Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) is a government-aided autonomous institution located in Thiruparankundram, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of several educational institutions founded by philanthropist and industrialist Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar. TCE was established in 1957 under the University of Madras. The courses offered in TCE are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. TCE was granted autonomy in the year 1987.

The institution and hostels are located near Thirupparankundram on the outskirts of Madurai, 8 kilometres south-west of the city of Madurai. The campus is located 10 km from the Madurai Airport, 8 km from the Madurai Railway station and is well connected by buses with all parts of state.

Campus

TCE is sited on a sprawling campus hosting state-of-the-art laboratories, spacious and well-stocked libraries, sports fields, world class computer centre, auditorium and gymnasium. The laboratories and library are kept open beyond class hours as well. Institute archives provides access to a varied range of printed and electronic material.

TCE offers a wide array of courses and programs at the under graduate and post graduate levels. All the seven undergraduate courses offered by the institute are the best in the industry.

Extracurricular: TCE organizes various seminars, workshops, special lectures, educational and industrial visits, paper presentation contests, design contests, symposiums, technical quizzes, etc., as part of co-scholastic activities. These programs are conducted by groups within the institute like student association, Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (IEEE) – Student Branch, Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), Rotaract Club, Cultural Association etc.

General Information

Admission

Admission into B.Arch Degree requires candidates to have passed 10+2 higher secondary examination with 50 percent marks as aggregate, with Mathematics as a subject of study and obtained 80 marks out of 200 in NATA (National Aptitude Test for Architecture) test in any one of the attempts.

A valid TANCET/GATE score is required for admissions to post graduate courses.

Fees: Annual tuition fee for the Aided Course at TCE is about Rs. 16,850, while for Self Supporting Course, it is Rs.46,650 per annum.

Achievement

TCE was ranked 64 among engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2020 and 101-150 band overall in 2020. It has been ranked among the top 20 colleges in the Education World India Engineering Colleges Rankings 2020-21/

TCE was also ranked 34 by Outlook India in 2019.

Accommodation

TCE offers separate accommodation facilities for boys and girls. All hostels have necessary amenities in place including 24 hour electricity, water supply, canteen, food courts etc.
