Shanmugha Science, Arts, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) University (established 1984), earlier known as the Shanmugha College of Engineering, is a private co-educational institution conferred the status of a deemed university in 2001 under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 of the Government of India.
It offers various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programs through its eleven schools. All the courses offered at SASTRA are approved by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu and the New Delhi-based All India Council of Technical Education.
Sastra University also has its own Training and Placement cell which offers career guidance programs, conducts mock interview sessions, organizes entrepreneurship promotion programs, facilitates internships for students with leading names in the industry, besides preparing them for GRE, GMAT and GATE as well as arranging on and off-campus recruitments.

Located on the Thanjavur-Tiruchirapalli highway at a distance of 17 km from Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu and 40 km from Tiruchirapallu, Sastra University is spread over a sprawling 168-acre campus which hosts state-of-the-art laboratories, well stocked library, best in class computing facilities, air-conditioned auditorium, audio-visual aids, and spacious classrooms. Besides these, the college also hosts support facilities such as IOB Bank Branch with two ATMs, Outdoor/Indoor sporting facilities, canteen, extra curricular centre, WADIO (wireless campus radio & video), post office, courier centre, DG Power Centre, well-laid tar roads, RO Plants for treated water, two ETP for water recycling, parking sheds, campus wide LAN and Wi-Fi enabled 32 Mbps internet network. There is also a separate indoor stadium for various sports and a gymnasium for boys and girls.
The Sastra University’s central library, called Saraswathi Sadan, spreads over an area of 47,000 square feet featuring over 1,64,000 books, subscription to 318 journals and periodicals, access to online journal database with 10,800 textbooks, 26,000 journals, 13,000 e-books and is equipped with a modern study area, audio-visual room and reprographic facilities. The library management system is fully automated making searching, issuing and returning easier and through networking, online sources of the library are available from anywhere in the campus. Its multimedia section is equipped with computer systems, plasma screen televisions, 14,500 educational CDs and video and audio players. The central library also broadcasts classroom lecture under the National Programme Technology Enabled Learning through a powerful streaming server.

SportsAdmission to all programs is strictly based on merit only.
Undergraduate Admission:
Admission to the B.Tech./five-year Integrated M.Tech. programs will be conducted under two streams. Stream 1 is based on JEE (Main) scores and +2 marks for 70 percent of seats
while stream 2 is based on +2 marks for 30 percent of seats.
All applicants will be eligible for both the stream and need not submit two separate application forms. The application form will be considered for the both streams.
Postgraduate Admission:
For all PG programs, admissions will be made on the basis of the scores in the qualifying UG/PG degree program. GATE qualified candidates will be given preference for engineering programs and for MBA, students with good CAT/XAT/AIMAT/CMAT/AIMCAT scores will be given preference.
For all degree programs in Law, admissions will be based on the CLAT 2021 scores and +2 aggregate taken in the ratio of 25% : 75% respectively.
For all other degree programs in sciences, arts, commerce, education, etc., admissions will be based on the qualifying exam marks.
