Overview

Abhyasa International Residential School, Toopran, Andhra Pradesh is a coeducational boarding school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. Founded in 1996, the education offered by the school is a blend of the modern public school system and the traditional Indian Gurukul culture.

The school is sited on a 25 acre campus at Toopran town in the Medak district of Andhra Pradesh and offers schooling from class IV to class XII.

Campus

The school campus sprawls over 25 acres hosting an administrative block with the principal’s room, conference room, rooms of vice-principal, accounts and reception. There are also labs for physics, chemistry, biology and computers, a spacious well stocked library, an exclusive audio-visual room, an art room, a language Lingua phone workshop room, and a fine arts corner.

The school hosts a dining hall with a seating capacity of 200, a Vishnu temple to perform traditional rituals every morning and evening, an open air amphitheatre with a seating capacity of more than a 1000 and a grand stage of 40’ x 60’ dimensions for programmers and film shows, besides this there is a health centre with 10 beds, basic medical facilities, a matron available round-the-clock and a canteen that serves nutritious vegetarian food.

The sports facilities include 60’ x 35’ swimming pool with a depth ranging from 2 to 7 feet, separate facilities for a variety of indoor and outdoor games like cricket, football, basketball, throw ball, volley ball, tennis, athletic track, kabbadi, kho-kho, table tennis, chess, and carom.

The school also boasts an explorative theme park, a 15 acre fruit orchard with over a 1,000 mango trees and a 100 year old banyan tree spread over more than half-an-acre.

Academics

The school’s curriculum focuses on the physical, mental, intellectual, aesthetic, social and ethical, emotional and spiritual development of the students.

Stress is laid on high quality of spoken and written English.

At the primary level teaching is facilitated through various forms of creativity for example multiplication tables learnt with the help of rhythmic walking and skipping. Classroom learning is supplemented by multi-media presentations displayed on plasma television and latest systems connected to a centralized server and supported by technical staff, an internet access and more than 25000 educational CDs – apart from an Audio-Visual lab with various types of projection facilities, educational video cassettes and satellite television – aid the teaching process at Abhyasa.

In classes VI, VII and VIII, the curriculum focuses on solving problems through creative thinking and stress is laid on doing. Here the experiential approach is used where the child encounters the concepts or phenomena and acquires abilities to work with materials and specimens. Students undertake live observations and undergo hands-on-experience through ploughing, sowing, harvesting in their natural environs and develop abilities that stem out of such activities.

In classes IX, X, XI and XII, the emphasis is on developing emotional intelligence. Various concepts which were earlier analysed to understand are now synthesized to draw conclusions. Students are challenged to work independently to cultivate skills of individual judgment through research, dissertations, projects, seminars and viva presentations.

General Information

Admission

Interested parents can collect the application form and prospectus from the campus office or city office and register their child for Aptitude test cum interview by submitting the filled-in application form at the city office or the campus office along with registration fee of Rs.1000. The first round of tests is conducted in February, the second round in April and final round (only if vacancies still exist) in June.

The school office provides parents syllabus for the Aptitude test along with test date and procedure. The school conducts tests for entry to various classes, depending on vacancies. The Aptitude test comprises both oral and written components. Both parents are required to accompany the child along with a written consent letter declaring their interest and willingness to admit their child to Abhyasa at the time of interview.

After the candidate qualifies the admission test, parents are given an admission letter and are required to pay the necessary admission fee, caution deposit and first installment of school fee within one week on receipt of the admission letter. Admission formalities are complete only after submitting the transfer certificate.

Abhyasa International Residential School is ranked among the top 20 co-ed boarding schools in India by the EducationWorld India School Rankings 2020-21.

Abhyasa Residential Public School was bestowed with the National Award by the Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Kanchipuram for its creative techniques in classroom teaching at the National Centre for Research and Development in Education Science and Technology.

A former class XII student of Abhyasa School, MRSK Chaitanya, was chosen for the ‘Laureate of the Youth Assembly Award for Excellence’ by the United Nations in recognition of his community work. He was the only Indian among 10 awardees for the year 2007.

Accommodation

The school dormitories offer individual cots, cup boards, hot water bath, laundry, hair salon, tailor shop and STD communication facilities for the children. Smaller children are assisted by ayahs for bath and dressing up. There are separate hostel facilities for boys and with 24 hour security.
