Overview

Founded in 1994, Summer Valley School, Dehradun is a co-educational day cum boarding English medium school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. The school offers classes from Kindergarten through class XII and aims at providing high quality holistic education.

Campus

Summer Valley School hosts technology enabled classrooms fully equipped with computers, Bluetooth mouse and digital teaching systems. The school houses well stocked, spacious and well ventilated library featuring books on various subjects. The school laboratories are well equipped with modern equipments. The multipurpose hall or main auditorium, situated within the academic block, has seating capacity of 1500. The school also hosts a music hall, craft room, candle making room and aero modelling room.

The school has two infirmaries – one in the boys’ section and another in the girls’ section. The boys’ section infirmary hosts a 10 bed hospital and an isolated ward. The girls’ section infirmary hosts a 4 bed hospital and an isolated ward. First aid and general medicines, on the consent of the parents, are given to day scholars when they feel unwell during school hours.

Academics

Summer Valley School is a co-educational English medium school affiliated with CISCE board, New Delhi. The academic session begins in April every year. Hindi is a compulsory subject till class X. Sanskrit is taught as a third language in the middle school from class VI to class VIII. The school maintains a teacher student ratio of 1:23. Till class VIII, all subjects are compulsory which includes English, Hindi, Mathematics, Science Social Studies, Environmental Studies, Sanskrit, General Knowledge and Computer Sciences. From class IX, the child is given an option of two streams – Commerce and Science.

Extracurricular:

The school believes extracurricular activities are essential for holistic development of a child. It therefore assigns specific periods for inter house and inter class competitions in Debating, Quizzing, Dramatics, Poetry, Music, Art & Craft.

The school also encourages students to participate in indoor and outdoor sports including Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Basketball, Roller Skating, Chess, Athletics, Shooting, Gymnastics and Aerobics.

Admission

Admissions in Summer Valley School are strictly on merit basis and usually take place once a year in April except under special circumstances. A child seeking admission to the school must be registered by submitting the accompanying registration form, duly filled in, along with the registration fee.

The age criteria for registration of students are as follows:

1. All candidates are required to undergo a test in English, Hindi, and Mathematics. For admission in class IX, the child would have to appear for an assessment test in Science also.

2. A student who is offered admission will be required to submit the following documents, failing which the admission will not be finalized.

a. Municipal Birth Certificate / Certificate from the last school attended.

b. For classes L.K.G. to Class I – 2 photographs of the child with parents. For classes VI to IX – 2 passport size photographs of the child.

3. School-leaving Certificate (duly signed by the District Education Officer/Inspector of Schools if the school is situated outside Uttarakhand).

4. Progress Report/Mark sheet issued by the previous school.
