Founded in 1986, Akal Academy Baru Sahib is a coeducational English medium residential school established by Sant Attar Singh Ji with the mission of developing the youth by cultivating their minds, inspired with a spirit of inquiry, thirst for knowledge and respect for diverse world cultures. It is the first International Baccalaureate (IB) authorised school in Himachal Pradesh and boasts 1122 students and 180 full time teachers. The school maintains teacher student ratio of 1:6.
The 15 acre campus hosts 75 modern classrooms, a wi-fi enabled computer room with 250 computers, 10 laboratories for different subjects, an auditoriums with seating capacity of 200 each and 85 IT enabled classrooms. The school library features 33070 books on literature, science, geography, history, fiction and general knowledge.
The sports facilities includes cricket ground, basket ball court, football ground, lawn tennis court, badminton court, gymnasium, hockey ground and facilities for table tennis, volley ball, kho-kho and weight lifting.
Affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), Geneva, the school offers schooling from primary level through class XII.
The academic session begins in the month of March.

SportsAdmission to Akal Academy is based on merit and on first come first serve basis. Application process for admissions begins in December. Admission is open to all, irrespective of caste, creed, religion or language spoken.
