Amity University in collaboration with Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, commenced a training programme on ‘Techniques of Advanced Imaging and Mass Spectroscopy, sponsored by Department of Science and Technology (DST) under synergistic training programme utilizing the scientific and technological infrastructure (STUTI), from June 1 to 7, 2022.
Thirty research scholars have been selected for this seven-day training programme which aims to equip participants with the basic knowledge and skills required to function in microscopy, photoacoustic, ultrasound imaging, high-resolution accurate mass spectrometry (HRAMS), proteomics and metabolomics and its applications in research. The participants will experience hands-on training on handling of the mass spectrometer, instrument understanding related to calibration process using compound discoverer 3.2 and data analysis. During this training Programme, the participants will have the opportunity to visit Banaras Hindu University which harbors the most advanced and sophisticated state-of-the-art instruments.
Prof. Vijay Kumar Shukla, rector, Banaras Hindu University, said, “Most industries require high-tech equipment as the world is evolving, especially in the field of science & technology, and the aim of this programme is to make state-of the-art equipment available to the industry. The goal of the National Education Policy is to make India a world leader, self-reliant and a highly developed country, which would only be possible when our young scientists have access to world-class equipment. Before undertaking any research, we must be aware of the societal impact and the benefit which the society and nation can derive out of it.” He called upon Amity to create similar facility and help in nation-building.
Prof. Anil K Tripathi, Coordinator, SATHI-BHU, said, “The purpose of Sophisticated Analytical & Technical Help Institutes (SATHI) facility is to cater to the needs of the industry, MSMEs, start-ups and academia so that they become self-reliant and curtail the use of foreign equipment and facilities. The main aim of this Program is “Capacity Building” through scientific collaboration and enhance the user base of these facilities.”
Addressing the gathering, Dr. A. Chakraborty, deputy director general, Amity Foundation for Science Technology and Innovation Alliances, Amity University, averred, “Amity has come forward and collaborated with Banaras Hindu University to open these national facilities so that the researchers can use them and learn more about them. Through this programme, the young Indian researchers will also get the opportunity to create a network for carrying out researches in various fields.”
The main objective of DST- STUTI Program is to build human resource and its knowledge capacity through open access to S&T infrastructure across the country through hands-on training programmes. The training will be conducted on a hub-and-spoke model approach. The DST as the apex body will identify an institute that shall function as a project management unit (PMU). The hubs will essentially be organizations having availed projects under FIST/ PURSE/ CURIE/ SAIF/ SATHI schemes. The PMU then shall act as a hub further identify host institutes/ departments in the catchment areas for coordinating and imparting the training in a smooth and efficient manner.
