Another private school in Bengaluru gets bomb threat

National Hill View

A private school in Bengaluru’s RR Nagar received a hoax bomb threat mail, pushing the school to press a panic button and order emergency evacuation on Monday.

National Hill View Public School in Bengaluru South received a bomb threat via an e-mail on Monday morning just when the school was to commence classes as per routine.

The school, which is managed by the family of congress leader D K Shivakumar later informed the police, moved all students out of campus and had their staff evacuate the building.

Sources in the school said, “We saw the mail after children arrived. The threat was for our unit 1 on our campus. We immediately moved school students to unit 2 and also shifted some of them to the engineering college section. Parents were asked to come and take their children back home. The police did a combing operation and found that it was only a hoax. Staff returned to school post 12 noon while a holiday was declared for students. Priority was to escort students to safety.”

RR Nagar police rushed to the spot and confirmed that no explosives were found and that investigation was underway.

It maybe recollected that this is not a one off in Bengaluru where several private schools have received hoax e-mails from an unknown source who threaten to have planted bombs in the school. Soon after, schools were forced to evaluate students and have a bomb squad check for explosives.

In April, atleast 15 private schools in Bengaluru received mails of threat, prima facie, the origin of which the police thought was a sender from US.

The mail read that a powerful bomb was planted in the school and it was not to be taken lightly. The sender also asked schools to alert the police and sappers. Some schools woke up to the mails several days later only to be dismissed as hoax.
