The Asian College of Journalism (ACJ) was founded in 1994 in Bangalore by the Indian Express Group to cater to the growing demand for trained staff from news organizations. Over the years, it has consistently churned out educated young people, not only with the necessary professional skills but also with the broad knowledge, integrity, and social commitment required of outstanding journalists. It is a postgraduate college designed to provide students with world class journalism education adapted to the specific needs of India and other developing countries in Asia. In 2000 it was taken over by the not-for-profit trust founded by journalist and media entrepreneur, Sashi Kumar and was relocated to Chennai. ACJ has become the preferred destination for media organisations in search of talented and capable young recruits and has been registering excellent placement for many years. The media employers of ACJ graduates include The Times of India, The Economic Times, The Hindu, The Indian Express, The New Indian Express, Mint, The Asian Age, The Telegraph, The Statesman, The Hindustan Times, Frontline, and Business Standard, among others. ACJ was ranked as the No.1 mass communication institution in India by the Outlook-MDRA Survey in 2012.
