In Karnataka’s Shivamogga district which is on high alert over the Hijab row, an activist from the right wing Bajrang Dal was allegedly murdered on Sunday night.
After the incident came to light late yesterday, educational institutions across the City were ordered to remain shut for safety purposes.
Since the incident came to light, tension prevails in the district even as the police is investigating the motive behind the murder.
The deceased is a 26-year-old Bajrang Dal activist, Harsha. A tailor by profession, he hails from Seegehatti in Shivamogga district, 270kms off Bengaluru.
The police have said that the incident took place around 9.30pm. Following the incident, several vehicles were set on fire in the district
As these incidents came to light, CrPC section 144 (prohibitory order) have been imposed in Shivamogga City and schools and colleges have been ordered shut.
Home Minister Araga Jnanendra who visited the family on Monday morning termed the incident an unfortunate one and assured that the police are investigating the case. “We are yet to know who is behind his death,” he said. He added that the police has five suspects in mind and that they are looking into the matter.
Meanwhile senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar have locked horns on the saffron flag hoisting issue. Eshwarappa pinned the blame on Shivakumar for instigating the Muslim community youth to commit the murder.
