A delegation of 100 Bangladeshi university students and young professionals is to undertake a week-long trip to India from October 6 at the invitation of Indian government. During its October 6-13 tour, the delegation will meet President Pranab Mukherjee and visit different educational, business and technological institutions and places of historic interests, said an Indian High Commission statement dated October 4. “The initiative is part of Government of India’s policy to further strengthen people-to-people contacts and exchanges between India and Bangladesh,” said the statement.
Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran briefed the delegation members at his office ahead of their India visit. “They (students and professionals) will be ambassadors of goodwill and friendship and their tour is aimed at building the bridge of friendship between the two countries,” according to an Indian High Commission spokesman.
The spokesperson said India initiated such visits from very few countries, with Bangladesh being one of them. The Bangladeshi delegation comprises students from different universities and young professionals like doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, journalists and artistes from across the country.
