The results of the 2025 Madhyamik (Class X) examinations announced on Friday showed a marginal increase in the overall pass percentage of 86.56 per cent than last year’s 86.31 per cent, Ramanuj Gangulay, president of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education said.

As many as 66 candidates secured the top ten ranks, the board chief said.

“Sixty-six candidates from all over the state have secured the top ten ranks. This shows that our schools are maintaining a good standard of education everywhere. Though he said the first position has been secured by a single student, Adrito Sarkar from Raigunj Coronation High School in Uttar Dinajpur district scoring 696 out of 700 which is 99.43 per cent marks,” Ganguly told EducationWorld after publishing the results.

The second rank has been secured jointly by Anubhav Biswas from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Vidyamandir in Malda district and Soumya Pal from Bishnupur High School in Bankura district scoring 694 marks. Ishani Chakraborty  also from Bankura stood third scoring 693 marks. She is the topper among girl students.

Immediately after the announcement of the results chief minister Mamata Banerjee in a message congratulated the successful students and advised those who couldn’t do well not be discouraged.

Announcing the results at a press conference, Ganguly said a total of 9,84,753 candidates had enrolled for the 2025 Madhyamik including 4,28,803 male and 5,55,950 female students. Of the total 9,69, 425 who took the test  8,14, 440 were declared successful. The total registration of students was nearly 65,000 more than last year.

Though the number of girls’ enrollment increased this year like previous years, the overall performance of female candidates continued to be less than their male counterparts.  This year, the success rate of female students is at least five per cent lower than boys.

District-wise data showed Purba Medinipur stood first and Kalimpong is the second best performing district.

The 2025 Madhyamik exam was held between February 10 and 22.
