Bengaluru: 16 school vehicle drivers booked for drunk driving

In a focused campaign against drunk driving, Bengaluru Traffic Police took action on Tuesday, booking 16 school vehicle drivers found operating under the influence of alcohol, according to officials.

Between 7 am and 9.30 am, a total of 3,414 school vehicle drivers underwent alcohol checks. Out of this group, 16 drivers tested positive for alcohol consumption. The offenders were charged under section 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) of the Indian Penal Code and section 185 (Driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) of the Motor Vehicles Act, stated Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) MN Anucheth.

The driving licenses of the implicated drivers were forwarded to the respective Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) for suspension.
