A 30-year-old tuition teacher who had kidnapped a 15-year-old student has been arrested and the girl has been rescued by the police in Karnataka.
A tuition teacher who had kidnapped his student and remained incommunicado for 44 days and was traced within three days of a police lookout notice. The girl has been rescued.
Accused Abhishek M Gowda is a resident of JP Nagar I Phase, south Bengaluru and hails from Harohalli in Ramanagara district. He also worked as a gym trainer and a private tutor for students between classes 1 and 10. The abducted girl was among the students.
He was arrested Monday under several sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act-2012 and sent to Central Prison.
Three days after the JP Nagar police issued a lookout notice on January 3, the landlord of the house where Abhishek rented alerted the police. The two were staying at a rented house in Malavalli near Mandya after lying to the house owner that they were a newly married couple.
The landlord was confronted with the reality when he saw the lookout notice in a TV channel and alerted his friend who then informed the police.
“We had declared an award of Rs 25,000 for tipping us off about Abhishek. However, the house owner and his friend declined to accept the money as they believe they’ve done a good deed to the girl by rescuing her,” an officer said.
Abhishek is married and has a two-year-old daughter. He allegedly abducted his student on November 23, 2024 and left a message that he was running away with the girl as he was in love with her.
