A 25-year-old teacher from Bengaluru has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing and extorting money from a student’s parent with whom she had been having an affair.
The Central Crime Branch arrested Sridevi Rudagi and two others – Ganesh Kale, 38, and Sagar, 28 for allegedly extorting Rs 4 lakh from Raghav (name changed) by blackmailing him using photos and videos of their encounters. The trio also threatened him to leak photos if they did not give an additional Rs 20 lakh.
According to the victim, he is a trader living in Bengaluru West with his wife and children. He had admitted his five-year-old to this school in 2023.
He was acquainted with Rudagi during the admission. He claimed that she kept in touch after which they began exchanging messages and video calls on a separate SIM card and phone.
Eventually their meetings turned personal and into an illicit affair. The teacher initially asked for Rs 4 lakh from the father, which he gave her. In January, she demanded an additional Rs 15 lakh. When he hesitated, she visited his home on the pretext of borrowing Rs 50,000.
Owing to setbacks, the father relocated his family to Gujarat and as he needed the child’s Transfer Certificate, the father approached the school in March. He claimed that he was cornered in Rudagi’s office, while Kale and Sagar were also present. They tried to extort Rs 20 lakh threatening him with photographs.
Rudagi later called him on the phone to remind him of the payment – Rs 5 lakh for a former police officer and Rs 1 lakh each for Sagar and Kale, and the remaining Rs 8 lakh to her.
Satish then called the police, who quickly established the police officer had no connection. Rudagi, Sagar, and Kale were arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
