Overview

Sited on a five-acre campus in south Bangalore, B.N.M. Institute of Technology (BNMIT, est. 2001) has established an enviable academic reputation with its students consistently bagging top ranks in university examinations. Affiliated with the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum which has 186 engineering colleges statewide under its umbrella, since 2006, 22 BNMIT students have secured the top 10 ranks in VTU exams. In the exam conducted in June 2011, 12 students of the institute were top-ranked. According to T.J. Ramamurthy, the director of the institute, “ The excellent academic reputation has been possible because of highly qualified faculty. The faculty offers personalized teaching with an enviable teacher-student ratio of 1:13; also the departments are headed by professors who have done their Ph.Ds. The institute boasts 30 professors with doctorates and 30 more who are registered for Ph Ds. Moreover, no expense or effort has been spared to build an excellent academic infrastructure, sports facilities and an array of extra-curricular activities. BNMIT has recently signed a MoU with the University of Alabama, USA, under which ten of our MBA students will visit the latter under an annual exchange program."

Campus

BNMIT campus is like a breath of fresh air set amidst landscaped gardens & with a highly surcharged interactive atmosphere between students, faculties & mentors. BNMIT’s academic and student development initiatives are supported by massive investment in infrastructure. The campus boasts 40 classrooms; a library and information centre with 1,400 volumes, 1,300 CD-ROMS, and subscriptions to over 110 national and 40 international journals; and 43 laboratories with 650 computers. The campus also has facilities for sports like tennis, badminton, basketball, and squash courts, and a well-equipped gym as well. On-campus clubs such as the nature club organize biking and trekking expeditions while students are encouraged to join academic fraternities such as the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) student chapter, Association of Computer Science and Information Science (ACSIS), BNMIT Electronics and Telecommunication Association (BETA) and the Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (AEEE).

The students of final and pre final year who satisfy the eligibility criteria (usually above 60% aggregate) attend the selection process comprising of aptitude test, group discussion, and technical interview and HR interview.

General Information

Admission

Admission into the BE program is through the state government’s Common Entrance Test and/or COMED-K. Students ranked 1-1,000 are awarded one-time scholarships of Rs.25, 000. Applications for admission into postgraduate programs must be submitted directly to the institute. Application and prospectus can be obtained in person or through post by sending a DD for Rs. 500 drawn in favor of ‘The Principal – BNMIT’, payable at Bangalore. Tuition fees: Rs. 30,000 - 1.25 lakhs annually for BE programme

Accommodation

Hostel The institute provides accommodation facilities for both male and female students. While the girls’ hostel is located within the campus, the boys’ hostel is located close to the campus.
