Bride appears for class XII exam before wedding; bridegroom waits at hall

March 12, 2019

20 year-old Renuka Pawar, a resident of Harsul village, Maharashtra, has received applause from across the country after she decided to sit for her class XII Economics exam on the day of her wedding, even as her groom waited at a wedding hall.

This class XII student, originally from Aurangabad, was to wed Shankar on Saturday at a mass marriage ceremony. Hailing from a poor family, which fell on still harder times after the death of her father, Renuka said education was important to her and she had worked hard to ensure it did not suffer a break. She had insisted that the wedding would have to be scheduled in such a way that it did not clash with her exams.

News agency PTI reported that as soon as she entered the wedding hall at around 2:15 pm on Saturday, the people gathered there for three marriages welcomed her with a round of applause after being told the reason for her absence since morning and hurried entry.

In a similar incident, a girl from Karnataka had appeared for exam in full bridal attire after her wedding ceremony in 2018.
