On International AI Appreciation Day, edtech platform BrightCHAMPS has released the world’s largest student-led survey on AI in education, capturing the voices of 1,425 students across 29 countries. The #StudentsSpeakAI report dismantles prevailing assumptions and sheds light on how Gen Alpha is truly engaging with artificial intelligence.
Key findings reveal a generation that’s curious, eager, and asking for guidance—not shortcuts. Over half (58%) of students globally are already using AI to support their education, particularly for homework and deepening classroom understanding. In India alone, 63% of students use AI regularly, with ChatGPT being the most preferred tool (62%).
Contrary to popular concerns, 95% of Indian students and 86% globally say they have never used AI to cheat. Instead, many seek to understand and use it responsibly. However, only 34% of students globally understand how AI works, even as usage rises.
Students also express concerns:

38% of Indian students and 36% globally worry about job security in the AI era.

50% of Indian students cannot tell if images or videos are AI-generated.

29% of students globally don’t cross-check AI-generated answers, and 20% admit to believing incorrect outputs.
Despite these gaps, the desire for deeper knowledge is strong. A striking 75% of Indian students believe AI should be integrated into the school curriculum, yet just 10% feel confident in their understanding of the technology.
