Building a legacy of innovation and transformation: Pinky Dalal

May 10, 2025

The early 1980s heralded a watershed event in Mumbai’s educational landscape. Pinky Dalal, a mother committed to nurture her son Kunal’s learning, found herself doing more than just teaching him lessons. She contextualised concepts, encouraged curiosity, and fostered independence – unintentionally stumbling upon a revelation that would shape the future of Indian education. Teaching wasn’t just a task; it was joy, a craft capable of unlocking limitless potential.

This realisation ignited a spark that grew into something much bigger. Driven by her passion, Mrs. Dalal started her first learning centre, Children’s Nook, in 1984 in South Mumbai. At a time when education in India revolved heavily around rote memorisation, she introduced a revolutionary approach – the “Mind-Body-Soul” philosophy. The idea was simple yet profound: nurture not just a child’s intellect but their entire being, fostering physical, emotional, and cognitive development.

Children’s Nook soon became a pioneer in experiential learning. With Mrs. Dalal’s unwavering commitment, it stood out as a beacon of innovation in early childhood education. With the steady growth in its reputation Children’s Nook expanded to other locations in Mumbai but for Pinky Dalal, this was just the beginning.

Transcending early years learning, her vision encompassed an education system that guided learners from their earliest years through adolescence, empowering them every step of the way. In 2003, alongside her son Kunal, she co-founded JBCN Education with the objective of providing academic consulting and management services to schools across India. What started as an ambitious idea soon flourished into a network of five progressive K-12 schools in Mumbai.

The schools have positively impacted the lives of over 25,000 students and alums thus far.

Over the years, Pinky Dalal was conferred with several awards and accolades for her excellent contributions to the maximum city’s education landscape. However, she remained humble and committed to what truly mattered – empowering young minds. Her passion for fostering innovation and strategic partnerships enabled JBCN schools to set new standards in education. She believed that a school leader must be an innovator, driven by a deep love for education and learning.

Her vision extended to every stakeholder at JBCN, cultivating a community where lifelong learning was not just a goal but a way of life. She dreamed of schools that served as stepping stones for growth and development, far beyond traditional classroom learning.
