The Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal School Service Commission to appoint 14,052 candidates who appeared in the state level selection test in 2016 as assistant teachers to teach in classes VI to VIII in state-aided upper primary schools in Bengal. The applicants had appeared in the Teacher Eligibility Test in 2015.
A division bench headed by Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty on Wednesday asked the school service commission to publish the final merit list of the 14,052 candidates within four weeks and the appointment letters will have to published within 12 weeks.
According to the order the commission will have to hold counselling and recommend all the 14,052 candidates who appeared in the personality test. The appointment will have to be given in accordance to law.
The appointments of the 14,052 candidates had to be kept on hold because of a series of petitions filed by some candidates against the selection process citing irregularities.
“This court directs the Commission to prepare and publish the final merit list and prepare the panel ….. in accordance with law within a period of four weeks from date”, the court said in the order on Wednesday.
On the basis of an order of the court, the commission in October last year had announced that it would hold counselling of all the applicants whose names are in the merit list. But the commission could not issue the appointment letters following petitions by some candidates pointing out irregularities in the selection process.
