The Central Board of Secondary Education will announce the dates for the commencement of in-person term exams on October 18, according to an official circular released on Thursday. The two-term exams for class X and XII students will be held in November-December and March-April.
The CBSE had, in a circular on July 5 announced that for students in class X and XII, two-term exams would be conducted for the academic year 2021-22.
The board has said that the term I exam, which will be held in November-December 2021 for a duration of 90 minutes will have only objective type questions covering half of the rationalized syllabus. This will be the first board exam the students will take in an objective pattern.
The term II exam will have either subjective or objective type questions and will be decided based on how the Covid-19 pandemic pans out during the March-April period when it is scheduled.
The board is offering 114 subjects for students in class XII and 75 subjects in class X. To cut short the period of conducting examinations, the CBSE has also categorized subjects into major and minor categories. Major subjects are those which are most common for all schools. Schools offering minor subjects would later be grouped and multiple exams will be held on a given day. This is done to cut short the usual 45 days that the board sets aside for conducting exams.
After the term I exams, results, in the form of marks scored by a student will be declared. However, the board will not place a student either in the pass or fail category based on this exam. Practical and internal assessment exams are to be conducted by schools prior to the commencement of term I.
