Under fire from all quarters for grade inflation, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning major reforms in its class 10 exam.
The Delhi-based organisation, which is also India’s largest examination board, aims to reward creative answers and discourage rote learning, reports Times of India. The 20 mark objective questions will be changed to different formats—multiple choice, fill in the blanks or answer in a single sentence.
The bigger change is planned in the theory portion worth 60 marks. The section will have fewer questions, with higher weightage, to encourage longer and creative answers. For the internal assessment worth 20 marks, students will have to create a portfolio for 5-10 marks.
The sample question papers will be available from July 2019 on CBSE website.
