Students of 2021 CBSE class X examinations will be assessed on 100 marks out of which 80 marks will be based on students’ scores in periodic tests, half-yearly or mid-term and pre-board exams and the remaining 20 marks will be on internal assessment done by the schools, the CBSE said.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Saturday released the assessment criterion for preparing the results of candidates of the 2021 CBSE class-X examinations which the board had cancelled on April 14 because of the rising Covid-19 cases across the country.
The results will be declared by June 20, the CBSE said.
The CBSE class X examinations were to be held from May 4 to June 7. The board had said at the time of cancelling the examinations that the results of the candidates will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the board. The board had further said that any candidate who is not happy with the marks allocated will be given an opportunity to appear in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exam.
The system of awarding 20 marks in each subject for internal assessment will be done as per the existing practice, according to the board. Majority of the schools have submitted the students’ scores on the 20 marks on internal assessment, the board said.
CBSE controller of examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj directed schools to ensure that the marks awarded to the students are in consonance with their students’ past performance in the Class X board examinations. Schools have been also asked to form an eight-member committee headed by the principals to finalise the results. The committees will have to be formed by May 5.
According to the information collected by the CBSE, the schools have conducted different examinations throughout the year, such as periodic tests, mid-term and half-yearly exams and pre-board exams, the board said.
For the 80 marks, the maximum marks in each of the tests the schools can allocate is as follows. Ten marks in the periodic and unit tests, 30 marks in half-yearly or mid-term examinations and 40 marks in pre-board examinations.
In case schools have conducted more than one test in each of the above categories, the weightage will have to be given to each of those exams. For example, if a school has conducted two or three pre- board exams, they will have to take the average of the three exams.
The CBSE said it is a challenging task to deliver fair and unbiased results in the pandemic situation. But the board is confident that it can complete the process in a smooth manner with the cooperation of the schools.
“In the pandemic situation, delivering fair and unbiased results to students on time is a challenging task. But we are confident that the CBSE school system will work hard to make things happen as smoothly as possible,” the board said.
