The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a notification providing complete details on how students can change their exam centres for the pending board exams, eligibility criteria, the process to be followed, guidelines and the deadlines. The students who are currently living away from their home schools can opt to change the exam centres so that they need not travel long distances to their exam centres.
The exam centres for other students will be their home school itself as it would help them avoid travelling long distances in public transport too. Even though several lockdown restrictions have been relaxed, travelling could be risky with millions of people in India using public transport.
How to apply for change of exam centre
Students can use CBSE’s exam centre locator app to get more details about their board exam centre. In its notification, the board informed that each district with CBSE-affiliated schools will have one school as the appointed nodal examination centre. The nodal exam centre can be used by CBSE students who moved in from a different district during the lockdown and cannot appear for the exams in their home schools.
Students who are residing in hostels, sponsored by state governments and who have shifted to a different district within India can request for change in the exam centres. The students need to make requests via their own schools only and it would be the responsibility of the school to contact its students and know their current location before sending requests to CBSE. It is also the student’s responsibility to inform the school about the same. Schools should use the e-pariksha portal to upload all the information in one lot. Submission link once closed cannot be reopened.
Students who are in districts with no exam centre can find a neighbouring district to appear for their exams. They need to inform the schools regarding the same. Candidates who were studying India and have shifted to other countries can appear for their exams from any district of India as no examination will be conducted in other countries by CBSE. They also need to place a request from their own school.
As per the orders by the home ministry, safety guidelines such as social distancing norms for students and invigilators, wearing of masks and use of sanitisers, will be followed. The schools will be responsible to ensure that all guidelines are being followed at the centres.
Important points to be noted
- Change of exam centre in the same district will not be allowed.
- No examination centre is permitted in containment zones. Different exam centres will be allotted for such schools.
- Private candidates who did not travel to a different location during the lockdown will have to appear for their pending exams at the same centre they were appearing at before March 18.
- CBSE schools outside India will not hold board exams; the results for these schools will be declared as per assessment rules to be decided by the board.
- If children with special needs who need a scribe do not wish to appear for the pending CBSE board exams, their result will be declared as per assessment rules to be decided by the board.
- The exam centre cannot be changed once again once the request is made.
- No request for reconduct of exams will be entertained.
- The deadlines for all processes are fixed and will not be changed.
