February 20, 2023

From the onset of the new academic year, students at the central universities will be able to take two courses at once, under the National Education Policy. This will provide students the option of taking an online course(distance learning) or a traditional course .

The University Grants Commission has a new clause for it. The completion of an internship will now be obligatory of graduate students, as per UGC Chairman Prof. M. Jagdish Kumar. The students’ skill development will be based on this internship and market requirements.

One can work with corporate organisations to develop an internship programme. Graduate and postgraduate students will have a variety of course options.

To provide students additional options, more certificate and diploma programmes need to be launched. In addition, after visiting the fields, the students will need to work on projects and community outreach. The Common University Admission Test (CUET) merit list will be utilized to evaluate applications for undergraduate courses at Central universities, according to a statement from the Education Ministry.

60 state and private institutions are anticipated to admit students for undergraduate programmes in addition to the 45 central universities, depending on their performance. As stated by the Education Ministry, central institutions across the nation are making an effort to promote Indian languages. The UGC’s guidelines have been adopted by a number of universities in order to run two academic programs simultaneously.

In a variety of disciplines, central universities are increasingly appointing ‘professors of practice’. The term “Professor of Practice” will be used to describe those without a PhD whose main line of work is not education. Nonetheless, due to their professional backgrounds, they might be selected to teach students.

Higher education institutions have received a letter from the UGC regarding the appointment of a professor of practise. In a statement to vice chancellors of universities and principals of colleges from the UGC, it is requested that they make the necessary adjustments to their institutions’ policies on the employment of professor of practice. The UGC has also requested that updates on the work being done in this area be shared on its official websites.

The procedures for selecting a Professor of Practice have previously been made public.
