Chhattisgarh to provide educational funding for children orphaned due to Covid-19

The government of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, May 13, announced its decision to fund the education of students who have lost their parents in the past year to Covid-19. The government has decided to provide a stipend to students so that they may continue their studies.

According to an official statement, the state government will provide Rs 500 to students studying in classes 1 to 8 and Rs 1000 will be provided to students of classes 9 to 12. Children studying in both government and private schools will be eligible for the same.

The state government has decided to launch Chhattisgarh Mahtari Dular Yojna for children who have lost their parents, said the official release. This programme will drive them to continue their studies and not put an end to it even after losing their parents to the deadly virus.

The state has also decided to bear the cost of education of students who have lost the bread earner of their family to Covid-19. Such children will also get priority for admission in the state-run Swami Atmanand English Medium Schools, it added.
