Do it now!

The New Year has begun and a planner is just the thing for a great start! Make your very own planner. You will need:

  • A 5-section notebook
  • Colour pens, glitter glue, stickers, 3D colours, and satin ribbon.
  • Give a heading to each of the five sections. Next, enter your goals and resolutions under each head.
  • Set your goals for the year
  • Study schedules and other regular activities
  • Hobbies and leisure activities
  • Birthdays and other special occasions to remember
  • Telephone numbers, addresses and e-mail ids
  • Each section will begin with a coloured page marker dividing it from the rest. Get out your decorating gear, label and decorate the dividing pages according to the theme. For example, the birthday section can sport a birthday cake, glittering party decorations, or festive stickers/pictures to add some pizzazz!
  • Use pretty handmade paper to cover the book and write your name in 3D colour. Then jazz it up with squiggles and designs!
  • Paste a colourful envelope at the back of your planner to keep stamps, bookmarks and stickers.
  • Stick a handy post-it pad in the inner cover.
  • Add a jazzy pen to your planner to complete the look!
  • Start serious planning this New Year and stay focussed like never before!

Day for others

The first New Year sunrise Special festivities herald the New Year at Kiribati Island, also known as Christmas Island. It is the very first country to welcome the New Year!

Though there are numerous other islands in the sea nearby, Christmas Island is officially recognised as the first to welcome the New Year as it lies snug between the Australian time zone and the International date line.

With the first sunrise predicted at 5:45 a.m. (local Kiribati time), all hotels along the shore line are fully booked early, and a whole lot of celebrations and events lined up. Tourists and backpackers headed to the tiny island to watch the first sunrise.

The island thrives on this kind of tourism. Private jets, which cost a pretty penny, offer the affluent a tour of “chasing the sunrise” around the islands in the wee early morning hours!

But sadly, due to rising water levels because of global warming, these islands are expected to be completely submerged by the year 2045. Where will the first sunrise come up then? Let’s wait and watch!
