The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued a directive to all government and private schools, emphasizing strict compliance with student safety and security protocols. This directive, announced via a circular on Wednesday, requires school heads to implement specific measures to protect students on campus. The circular instructs school heads to follow the checklist outlined in the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) safety manual. This checklist, part of the broader guidelines by NCPCR, aims to establish clear accountability for school management on matters related to child safety and security. In addition to general safety measures, the DoE has underscored the importance of adhering to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) guidelines, especially for hostels affiliated with educational institutions. These guidelines cover various aspects of hostel safety, from fire hazards to emergency evacuation procedures. The Ministry of Education has also introduced the “Guidelines on School Safety and Security 2021,” created in response to Supreme Court mandates and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This framework provides a comprehensive approach to safeguarding students in schools, integrating both physical and psychological safety measures. The DoE’s directive calls for rigorous enforcement, ensuring that schools conduct regular safety audits, train staff on emergency protocols, and maintain clear communication channels with parents. All schools are expected to submit compliance reports, detailing their adherence to these guidelines, with regular inspections by DoE officials planned to verify readiness and ensure full implementation.
