Overview

Established in 1972, Delhi Pubic School, RK Puram, Delhi is a co-ed, day-cum-boarding private school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Their mission is to nurture students to realise their maximum potential and identify and achieve their goals in an environment of rich tutelage, joyful and harmonious learning while maintaining the spirit of togetherness and upholding their motto “Service Before Self”. The school aims to bring forth responsible citizens of the world capable of making a difference who aspire to make their school and nation proud of their achievements and stellar personal qualities.

Their vision is to prepare children for life by broadening their horizons, deepening their thoughts and inculcating analytical reasoning and logical conclusion in learning. The essential values of goodness, honesty, humility and discipline are instilled in the students, guiding them to cultivate strength to fearlessly face adversities and overcome challenges with confidence. Campus

Spread over an area of 12 acres with an additional 6 acres of separate sports campus, the DPS RK Puram campus is located in the heart of the South-Delhi urban area. The school infrastructure includes multiple school blocks with numerous laboratories, including 6 computer labs, 3 chemistry labs, 2 physics labs, a biology lab, biotechnology lab, robotics lab, mathematics lab, think lab, and resource centre. The facilities also include a well-stocked senior and junior library, music centre, art room and clinic. There is an assembly ground and three presentation venues: seminar room, OAT, AVH and Studio. 

The expansive sports centre features swimming pools, a lawn bowl court, football and cricket fields, basketball, squash and tennis courts, a yoga room and billiards and table-tennis rooms.

There is also hostel accommodation on campus, with a separate boys’ and girls’ hostel block. 

Academics

DPS RK Puram is affiliated to CBSE with classes from Nursery to class XII and provides co-curricular education. The institution is duly recognized by the Department of Education, Government of NCT Delhi.

The preschool and kindergarten curriculums are experiential, activity-based and fun. The pedagogical processes followed are based on developmentally appropriate methods with multiple teaching and learning strategies. Children enjoy the freedom to explore, express, create and interact within their environment and gain knowledge.

The scheme of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), as designed and laid out by the CBSE & NCERT, is followed in the Junior School (classes I-V). Formal test & exams are introduced in Class IV. The learning areas include Languages (Hindi and English), Mathematics, Environmental Science, Information & Communication technology, Visual Arts & Performing Arts, Physical & Health Education and Life skills and Value Education. 

The school follows the CBSE curriculum in classes IX to XII and uses NCERT books in various subjects. NCERT books and guidelines are also primarily followed in classes VI-VIII. Science, commerce and humanities are offered at senior secondary level.

Students also have the option to join various hobby clubs as per their interest and aptitude and are provided opportunities to participate in intra-section and inter-section competitions, class assemblies, annual days, celebrations and social awareness campaigns. Work Experience, art education, physical education and sports are also compulsory for the students.

A unidirectional teaching method is being increasingly substituted by a multidirectional group workshop method, where the teacher becomes the group co-ordinator initiating work, nurturing students without the phobia of examinations and homework. Emphasis is laid on development of oral and written expression. Home assignments are not a carry-over of classwork but oriented towards honing individual talents.

Admission

For applying for admission into DPS RK Puram, applicants must select their course/class and download the admission application forms online from the official website and fill and submit it to the school. Payment for admission may be made through the authorized online portal or offline.

All applicants must meet the student eligibility criteria which include the following; All students must:

• be older than the minimum age that is issued by the CBSE.
• have the minimum merit that is set by the school.
• provide all the documents that are denoted in the form.
• clear the admission test as per the school’s terms.
• Submit the application for admission before the last date. 

For getting admitted in the class 11th the applicants must have an aggregate of:

• 75% or above in any 5 subjects for humanities stream.
• Minimum 75% in each subject – English, mathematics and science for science stream.
• Minimum 75% in each subject – English and mathematics for commerce stream.

Achievement

• DPS RK Puram has been consecutively ranked among the top boys days schools by EducationWorld India School Rankings. 
• Amity International School, Saket organised the Online Sanskrit Olympiad on January 16, 2021, in which students of DPS RK Puram secured laurels and the school bagged the Overall Rolling Trophy for the third consecutive year, competing against 24 schools of Delhi and NCR.
• Students of DPS RK Puram won the Gold Award, Silver Award and the International Rank in the International Sanskrit Olympiad organized by the International Foundation Sanskrit Olympiad (IFSaO), held in December 2020.
• Two students of class VI won the “I am…” writing competition organized by Berkeley University in November 2020, where the students had to write about the natural resources as assets, their present condition and their role in our lives. Their writings were to be supported by citations of factual data in a creative manner and write an essay from the perspective of the asset chosen by them.
• The students of DPS RK Puram participated in “Tenalach”- An Inter DPS Environment Festival on  November 27, 2020, and won in various competitions like The Creator’s Project, Poetry Writing and Voice It Out.
• In June 2020, the Royal Commonwealth Society of London organized an essay writing competition for students with the theme ‘Climate Action and the Commonwealth’. Praniti Gulyani of XI-U was awarded the ‘Gold Finalist’ award for her essay entitled ‘Change – A Way of Life’, out of over 13,000 entries worldwide.
• The Khelo India Youth Games 2020 were held at Guwahati (Assam) from 10th to 22nd January 2020. Six students of DPS RK Puram represented Delhi and won Silver medals under the girls and boys Lawn Bowls category which saw the participation of 16 state teams.
• Two students of DPS RK Puram were awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2020. They received the award from the Honourable President of India at a ceremony at the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan on 22 January 2020. They were also felicitated by the Honourable Prime Minister of India at his residence and were a part of the Republic Day parade on 26 January 2020 in New Delhi.
• Sagnik Anupam received the award for developing a machine-learning model predicting water levels up to four days in advance for the Brahmani-Baitarani river basin in Odisha while Tanish Goel was awarded the Bal Shakti Puraskar in the category of innovation.

Accommodation

DPS RK Puram provides hostel facilities on campus accommodating over 400 boarders from across the country. There is a separate boys’ and girls’ hostel block.
