A 27-year-old Professor of Delhi University‘s St Stephen’s College was found dead on railway tracks. While his 55-year-old mother was found hanging at their house in north Delhi’s Pitampura, the police said. The victim Allen Stanley’s decapitated body was found on the tracks at Sarai Rohilla railway station on Saturday. His mother Lissy’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan with her mouth stuffed with cloth and limbs tied, the police added. They also suspect that Stanley committed suicide after killing his mother.
A murder case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Rani Bagh police station. Hailing from Kerala, Stanley was under depression, according to people close to him. He had even tried to persuade his mother to kill herself five days ago.
Stanley was a guest professor at St Stephen’s College, and was doing his doctorate from another institute. His mother came to stay with him seven months ago. The police said they found a wallet, a wristwatch and a driving licence on the railway tracks where the body of the professor was found. They also found a four-page suicide note written in Malayalam at the house citing they were depressed over a police case against them.
Previously, a case of abetment to suicide was registered against the mother-son duo by family members of Lissy’s second husband Wilson. They married in 2018; however, her second husband died. Wilson’s children also alleged that Rs 1.50 crore was transferred to Lissy’s account after his death as she was made a nominee in several of their father’s accounts.
St Stephen’s College Principal, John Varghese, said: “The young man was an adhoc teacher at our college. On Saturday, he did not come to college and we got to know that he had committed suicide. The college administration was not aware of any previous FIRs against him. He had not spoken to any of his colleagues about it.”
The two bodies were sent to separate government hospitals and the autopsies are likely to be conducted on Monday.
