E-portal of higher education teachers launched

Vinod Tawde

The Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister, Vinod Tawde launched a web portal of higher education teachers and academicians known as ‘academisthan.com‘ on Wednesday, 28th August. The online portal contains database of leading professors of the higher education category across India.

It has been launched to serve as a resource centre for educational institutions to make better policy decisions. The exhaustive database has been aimed at aiding teachers outreach and engagements beyond the geographical location of their institutes. The initiative was taken by Deepak Kumar Mukadam, the chancellor’s nominee in the University of Mumbai‘s management council.

Regarding the launch of the portal, Tawde said, “This will open up a new window of resources for educational institutes. It is a welcome move of the University of Mumbai” while Mukadam said the portal will bring all the top academicians across the country under one roof. He further added, “Their work is now just a click away. The portal will serve as a resource centre for educational institutions in government, semi-government and private sectors to develop their policies and other activities.”

Besides, the database will help in providing essential information to government agencies, NGOs and others such organisations to aid in policy-making decisions, plans and allocation of resources related to higher education.

According to the website, ‘academisthan.com’, it is a “not for profit and non political initiative for the teaching faculty serving in Institutions of Higher Education (IHE). It is a platform for the voluntary involvement of teachers.”

A “first of its kind e-portal”, it will help “keep the teachers abreast with higher education related news, views, guidelines, regulations, statutes and ordinances. The portal envisions being dynamic and providing platform for solving issues of teachers and providing support to the community. The portal will broaden its scope in the future to capture data on the management of institutes/colleges and also students.”
