Eight prestigious educational institutes based in Uttar Pradesh have once again secured good positions among the Top 100 academic institutions in India, according to the latest rankings released by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), under the Union Ministry of Education. The rankings, unveiled on Monday, encompass various categories, with IIT-Kanpur emerging as the leader in the newly included ‘Innovation’ category.

IIT-Kanpur, maintaining its exceptional performance, secured the 5th position in the overall category, while also securing the top spot in the Innovation category. Although its score slightly dropped from 77.83 in 2022 to 77.23 in 2023, IIT-Kanpur remains a beacon of excellence in the educational landscape. BHU, another esteemed institution, held onto its last year’s positions and achieved an impressive 11th rank in the overall category.

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University showcased significant progress by climbing nine spots from its previous ranking of 78th to secure the 69th position this year. The university’s score also witnessed a notable improvement, rising by nearly three points, from 46.39 in 2022 to 49.53 in 2023. However, BHU’s Indian Institute of Technology experienced a minor setback, slipping to the 31st rank from its previous 29th position in 2022. Similarly, King George’s Medical University faced a slight decline, dropping to the 77th place compared to its previous rank of 75th in 2022. Despite an increase in KGMU’s score from 47 in 2022 to 48.5 in 2023, its rank was affected.

Among the private universities in Uttar Pradesh, Amity University (Noida) secured the 57th rank, while Shiv Nadar University (Greater Noida) claimed the 95th spot. Notably, Amity University experienced a decline compared to its position last year when it ranked 42nd among all institutions in the country.

Out of the six government-supported institutions in Uttar Pradesh, KGMU is the only one funded by the state government, while the others are central institutes. Surprisingly, no undergraduate/postgraduate degree college from Uttar Pradesh made it to the list in the college category. However, BHU and AMU showcased their prominence by securing top positions in several categories. The NIRF rankings cover twelve categories in total, including overall, universities, colleges, engineering, management, pharmacy, law, dental, architecture, medical, agriculture, and innovation. Uttar Pradesh-based institutes made a strong presence in the top 100 rankings for universities and engineering. Notably, the state performed exceptionally well in the newly introduced categories of Innovation and Agriculture, which were added to the NIRF for the 2023 rankings.

The state of Uttar Pradesh further exhibited its prowess in the field of agriculture, with two institutions ranking among the top 10 agriculture institutes in the country. This achievement highlights the state’s commitment to nurturing excellence in multiple disciplines.
