PW invited parents from Vista International School, Hyderabad to share their thoughts on how they ensure their children socialize with others.
“Leading by example is the best way to ensure our children are socially active. I start with a pleasant smile, acknowledge others’ presence, and initiate a conversation picking common topics of interest and avoid intruding into their personal space while building trust. Similarly, I encourage my daughter Advika (class VIII) to participate in community events, functions, and social gatherings This helps her develop confidence, social skills, and a natural ability to connect with others” — Sirisha R, Quality Engineer, TagNTrac.
“The key to raising a social child is early and frequent interaction with others. Our daughter Anchita (class III) was blessed with an elder sister and friends as constant companions. But beyond that, we ensured she met her friends and family often, speaking her mind, and evolving into a vivacious personality. As her father’s daughter, she has the natural proclivity to bring any party to life. As a parent, it is heartening to watch her being socially active, and empathetic about others’ feelings” — Poulami Mukherjee, Student Acquisition Manager, Bower School of Entrepreneurship.
“I have encouraged the participation of my son Jay (class V) from youngest age in group activities (sports, clubs) to foster interaction with his friends and peers. Moreover I also arrange small get-togethers and social outings in comfortable environments. Communication skills apart, I have taught Jay the value of empathy, the key to initiate open conversations and sharing ideas with others without being over imposing. It is such a pleasure to watch Jay make new friends” — Neha Rajvanshi, Admin Executive, Samashti International School.
“Free mingling with others can be achieved through participation, involvement with school activities or by active listening to observe, appreciate others. I always emphasize to my daughter Navya (class XI) that greeting others with a smile and initiating conversations on topics of mutual interest enable deep friendships. To help her develop social skills, we often play family games such as snakes and ladders and chess which encourage sharing, listening, taking turns, etc.” — Rupa S, ERP Consultant.
