Finland International School (FIS) – Race Course celebrated its first anniversary with its inaugural annual concert, Ilo Utsav: Oni’s Great Journey, held at the Sophia Bhabha Auditorium. The event highlighted the school’s focus on creativity, learning, and community through student performances in music, dance, and drama.
The concert was attended by several distinguished guests, including Erik af Hällström – Consul General and Head of Mission, Finland; Eva Nilsson – Deputy Head of Mission, Finland; Tibor Kovacs – Trade Attaché, Hungary; and Toshihiro Kaneko – Chief Consul, Japan. Their presence reflected the international outlook of the school.
Since its founding, FIS has been recognized for its inclusive environment and focus on holistic education. The FIS Board includes Founding Principal Nikke Keskinen and educationist Fatema Agarkar, who is also known for her work in school reform and her association with Indian cricket through her husband.
Speaking on the occasion, Fatema Agarkar said, “Thanks to Shashank’s vision, Mumbai now has a unique institution shaped by Finnish pedagogy.”
Shashank Goenka added, “We began planning this school in 2017. It’s a proud moment to see it take shape and contribute to the educational community in Mumbai.”
The evening included a thoughtful tribute to the recent tragedy in Kashmir, reinforcing the school’s values of empathy and social awareness. Ilo Utsav was entirely planned and executed by the FIS–Race Course team, showcasing their dedication and collaborative spirit.
The event marked an important milestone in the school’s journey and underscored its goal of nurturing creative, confident, and globally aware students.
