Four model residential schools will be established in the tribal areas of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior official of the Tribal Affairs Department of the union territory said.

Choudhary made the announcement on Sunday while discussing the roadmap for fast-tracking various developmental projects in the union territory.

Apart from expediting the process of establishing the four model residential schools, the department is also exploring more areas to be covered with residential schools and hostels in the current year, Shahid Choudhary said attending a meeting with senior officials at Jammu.

New areas were being identified for setting up hostels for both boys and girls, he said.

“Identification of areas for establishment of residential hostels for both boys and girls  will be prioritized by the department in the current year,” he said.

Choudhary, also the Chief Executive Officer, Mission Youth J&K, said the work for implementation of a number of developmental works were in the pipeline at present. Such as filling the vacant posts to ensure efficient functioning of the department, developing a portal for smooth disbursement of students’ scholarships, online monitoring of various projects,  running e-office, proper execution of educational plans and implementing Forest Rights Act, the official said.

The department has already been asked to develop a portal for enrolment of students to maintain transparency in disbursing scholarships and to ensure timely disbursement of the scholarships.

“Students’ details will be registered on the portal and authenticated by institutions to reduce delays. The department will frame and notify rules in this context,” Shahid Choudhary said.

The official appealed to the students to avail of the doctoral and research fellowships offered by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
