January 28, 2016

Kolkata based Globsyn Skills, a joint venture between Globsyn Group and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), organised the second National Skills Convocation at Kala Mandir, Kolkata on January 16. The chief guest on the occasion was Ujjal Biswas, minister incharge for technical education and training, Government of West Bengal. On the occasion, the achievements of over 1100 trainees, who had been part of Globsyn’s skill development programmes nationally in Banking, Tourism & Hospitality, Plumbing, Beauty & Wellness and IT/ITeS among others, were acknowledged through the award of certificates. The participants in Globsyn Skills’ CSR programmes, who were trained in Basic Computing and C Programming, were also felicitated along with the other trainees.

The National Skills Convocation has been conceptualised with an objective to act as a catalyst for neutralising real or perceived differences within communities through recognition of vocational training and by making it aspirational among the youth. The convocation, by providing the participants of Globsyn’s skill development programmes a spectacular arena to get their achievements acknowledged, helps in improving their self-image and also provides them with a sense of empowerment.

Globsyn Skills also aims to make the National Skills Convocation a platform to recognise and acknowledge the different stakeholders of the skills ecosystem – training partners, faculty and corporates – who play an invaluable role in transforming the lives of the youth who participate in the training programmes. While the training partners mobilise the students and the faculty help in delivering the course content, the corporates recruit the students thereby making their skills an economically viable livelihood option.

The second National Skills Convocation also witnessed offer letters from notable corporates like Bata, Billion Smiles, Eureka Forbes, HDFC Bank, Reliance Trends and TCS being handed out to over 50 successful trainees, while the top students of Globsyn’s Finishing School were offered apprenticeship opportunities with some of the leading companies such as Fi-tek, LLC and Experis IT India.

The guest of honour on the occasion was Upender Jit Singh, managing director, WBEIDC & chairman, Webel Group of Companies, while Subir Chaki, whole time director, McNally Sayaji Engineering Limited was the corporate guest of honour.

Addressing the gathering, Rahul Dasgupta, managing director, Globsyn Skills commented, “In line with our prime minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Skill India and his mandate of making vocational skills aspirational, Globsyn Skills organises the National Skills Convocation every year. This year, the Second National Skills Convocation will not only provide certificates to the students but also provide recognition to the other stakeholders – the training partners, faculty and corporate recruiters.”

Incepted in 1977, Globsyn Skills (GSDL) is a ‘not-only-for-profit’, social enterprise formed by Globsyn Group in equity partnership with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) with an ambitious mission of grooming 1 million youth in the next 10 years.
