In a progressive move, the Goa government is planning to increase the spending on educational sector to 5-6 per cent of the gross domestic product. Currently, the spending on the sector stands at 3.4%.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar made this announcement during a press conference on Saturday where he presented the detailed analysis of the spending of the state during the current fiscal.
The chief minister said the current allocation for educational sector is highest in the country and much more than the national average. “The state government has decided to make education a priority area and is contemplating the possibility of increasing the spending on the sector to 5-6% of the GDP,” he said.
The move has been lauded by educationists, who have been demanding an increase spending on education, by the Centre and all state governments, for a better development index in the country.
