The Good Shepherd International School, Ooty is an international residential school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) UK, and the International Baccalaureate (IB), Geneva.
Established in the year 1977 by Dr. P C Thomas, the Good Shepherd International School, Ooty has been ranked among the top international schools by the EducationWorld India School Rankings. Spread over a 460-acre campus at Ootacamund (Ooty), in Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, the campus of the Good Shepherd International School boasts of excellent and well equipped 56 class room, golf course, swimming pool etc.
The Good Shepherd International School is primarily a national institution with an international perspective, holding secular and democratic values. Located at Ootacamund (Ooty), in Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, India on a 460-acre campus, facilities on the campus include classrooms and laboratory blocks, two lecture theatres, two indoor sports complexes, rifle ranges, fields and courts for tennis, golf, volleyball, basketball, squash, hockey, cricket, and association football. There are stables and equestrian facilities, two swimming pools, and a medical centre.
The new academic building has 56 classrooms. Each room has adequate storage provisions for the entire class. The school has six excellent computer labs where the students have unlimited access to computers and the professional software tools that go with them. The teaching laboratories are equipped with Windows NT and multimedia PC’S all networked to common file servers and connected to the outside world via the internet.
The audio visual laboratories have a videopedia procured from abroad especially from BBC. It has several state of art multimedia projectors with many accessories which has revolutionized the learning programmed at school at all levels. These labs have facilitated the interactive teaching techniques and have given the opportunity to our students to explore the world of interactive learning.
The library facilities are excellent with over one lakh volumes of books, and it subscribes to over 75 periodicals and magazines, both Indian and foreign. It is equipped with a computerized database enabling the students to have access to the necessary books quickly.
The school also has an equestrian facility with stables to keep 30-40 horses, a training ring and a gallop ring are constructed in the southern section of the campus. Basketball courts, volleyball courts, eight tennis courts and four badminton courts are built in the open space between the buildings to promote outdoor activities. Four indoor squash courts meeting International Standards are provided in the campus.
The school is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. The Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination is taken after a two year course of studies beyond the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Examination or its equivalent.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Geneva, Switzerland, offers a diploma programme for students in the final two years of secondary school.
The Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is designed as a two year curriculum program leading to a Certificate which is internationally recognized as equivalent in standard to the British GCSE and International GCE ‘O’ LEVEL Examinations.
Extracurricular:
Sports at the school include horse riding, football (soccer), basketball, tennis, swimming, water polo, cricket, volleyball, hockey, table tennis, badminton, squash, and golf. Students are required to take part in sports.
Performing arts include Western and Indian music, brass and pipe bands, choirs, solo singing, and traditional and modern instruments. Outward bound activities offered are camping, trekking, and mountaineering. All classes have a week of mountaineering activities. The school takes part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. The school has a unit of the sea cadet corps, and is a registered centre of NASA for field study and leadership training. 65 students go every year to the NASA Space Center, Huntsville, Alabama, USA.

The classes for every academic year commences during middle of July. The child should be at least eight years of age, for admission in class III. Interested students will have to appear for an aptitude test in English, mathematics (and science for classes VIII and IX) and second language to qualify for admission. The school does not admit students in classes X and XII. The aptitude test is held in the school between March and June every year.
Admission is confirmed only after assessing the performance of the child in the aptitude test and a personal interview with the respective coordinators of the class. On confirmation of admission, parents will be required to submit a conduct certificate from the existing school along with a recommendation letter.
For admission in Class XI, parents are required to visit the school with the candidate for a personal interview and an aptitude test in English. The academic reports of classes VIII, IX and X along with a character certificate from the last school are mandatory for admission. The admission for class XI and the choice of subjects / stream will be considered purely based on the results of the board exams and the stream taken.
The academic calendar is from mid July to Mid May. There are two terms and two vacations per year. The first term is from mid July to mid December and the second term is from mid January to mid May. The winter vacation from mid December to third week of January and summer vacation from mid May to mid July.

Separate dormitories are provided for the sub juniors, juniors, inter, seniors and super senior boys and girls so that children grow up among their own peers and among the same age groups. Each dormitory, according to its strength is assigned one or two dormitory administrators and dorm nurses. Each dormitory or a dormitory complex has state of the art diesel boilers, to provide hot water for all the children to bathe, DVD player and an audio system and a television set.
The school has hospitals equipped with 40 beds each, an isolation ward and IC Unit with resident medical officers and experienced and trained staff nurses.It also has two fully equipped ambulance vehicles.
A well-balanced, wholesome and nutritious food is provided. All the members of staff dine with the students. Separate vegetarian, Jain and non-vegetarian kitchens and dining halls cater for South Indian, North Indian, Thai, Continental and Jain Cuisine.
