Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the government is working on a war footing to curb incidents of paper leaks, while assuring that those playing with the future of youngsters will not be spared.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, where there has been a persistent request from the opposition to raise the issue, Modi reassured that the government would leave no stone unturned in taking to task those responsible for the controversies.
This response by Modi was in response to allegations of irregularities, paper leaks and malpractices in UGC NET and NEET exams. The opposition has been demanding a discussion on the issue in Parliament.
“The president expressed concerns about paper leaks while delivering her address. I also want to assure students that the government is committed to controlling such incidents and we are taking back-to-back steps on a war footing to ensure the same,” he said.
He added that arrests were now being made across the country and steps are being taken to strengthen the system of conducting examinations.
“Those playing with the future of youngsters will not be spared, arrests are being made across the country in the NEET issue. The Centre has already framed strict laws and important steps are being taken to strengthen the entire system of conducting examinations,” the prime minister added.
Leader of opposition, Rahul Gandhi wrote to Modi after repeated requests to discuss the issue related to the medical entrance exam was denied in both houses of Parliament.
While the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation is underway, the centre has constituted a committee chaired by former ISRO chairman Dr Radhakrishnan to look into the issue.
