Gujarat: Class 10 Board results declared

Exam Results

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has declared the results of the Gujarat SSC or class 10 board students on its official website on Tuesday. Students can check their results at gseb.org. 100% of students have passed Class 10 examination.

This year, a total of 8,57,204 students had registered for the Gujarat Board Class 10 examination, out of which, 4.90 lakh are male candidates and 3.66 lakh are female candidates. Last year, a total of 60.64% of students passed the Gujarat Board class 10 exams while in 2019, 66.97% of students had passed the examination.

The GSHSEB board had cancelled the Gujarat Board class 10 and 12 board examination 2021 in owing to the increase in the number of covid-19 cases across the state.

“Considering the current state of transition of the covid-19, the decision to give adequate mass promotion to regular students in Std-10 SSC this year was taken in the core committee meet,” Chief Minister Vijay Rupani earlier said.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that 100 students have been given a grace marking of 198 marks. A student generally needs 33 marks in each of the six subjects to pass. This means that these 100 students did not score a single mark on their own and were graced with the passing marks.

Officials of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, however, said that previously grace markings of 24 were usually given to candidates. Here too, there were conditions like the student should have scored 40 percent marks and total of 24 grace marks were granted in two subjects.

Granting 198 grace marks means the students did not score a single mark in their Class 9 and Class 10 unit exams. It is a tough feat to achieve as even the poorest students would score two to four exams. Alternatively, there is a possibility that these students were just enrolled and did not attend school at all, explained a senior board official. However, the mystery regarding the marks obtained by these students still remains.

Owing to the pandemic, the examinations were cancelled and a merit-based evaluation system was decided. The final results were calculated on the basis of 40 percent marks scored in class 9 examinations, 40 percent marks obtained in class 10 unit tests and 20 percent internal examination marks.
