Overview

Hans Raj College, located on Delhi University’s North Campus, was founded in July 26, 1948 by the DAV Managing Committee in memory of Mahatma Hans Raj, founder of DAV College, Lahore. The DAV family comprises more than 700 institutions and Hans Raj College is one of the largest constituent colleges of Delhi University.

Hans Raj College caters to more than 5000 students with about 175 teachers and an almost equal number of non-teaching staff on its rolls.

Campus

Over the years, the College has built up an impressive infrastructure. It includes a well-stocked central library, department libraries for science subjects and a book bank for needy students. The college has six computer labs and 18 Science laboratories. Its sports facilities include vast sports ground, a basketball court, an indoor sports complex, playrooms, an amphitheatre, lift facility and a state-of-the-art indoor shooting range. 

The College has an Ultra-modern air-conditioned Auditorium fitted with latest sound and light systems with a seating capacity of 500 persons and an imposing stage. Another attraction is an air-conditioned Seminar Room with a seating capacity of 120 fitted with state of the art sound and projection systems. The College has a hostel accommodating about 200 undergraduate boys and is fitted with solar geysers and 24hrs. power back up. As you enter the portals of this institution, the calm, serene atmosphere of a beautiful campus surrounded by lush green lawns and a magnificent heritage building touch your soul.

The college canteen accommodates approximately 150 students. ATM and banking facilities of Canara Bank are also available on campus.

Admission

For admission in B.A. /B. Sc, minimum percentage of marks required is 40% of the aggregate at any of the examinations recognized by the DU.

For admission to B.A. (Honors)/ B.Com (Honors)/ B.Sc. (Honors) Mathematics, minimum percentage of marks required is 45% in the aggregate at any of the examinations recognized by the DU. However, for admission to B.Sc.(Honors) Mathematics, the candidate should have passed in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with 50% marks in Mathematics.

For admission to B.Sc. (Honors), minimum percentage of marks required is 50% in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology for admission to Botany/Zoology (Honors) and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for admission to Physics/Chemistry/Electronics (Honors) in any of the examinations recognized by the DU. The candidate should also have passed in all the subjects included in the aggregate.

Admission to the five-year integrated M.Sc. Earth Science will be conducted by the Department of Geology and Hans Raj College. Subjects like, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will be taught in Hans Raj College of Delhi University.

Achievement

Hans Raj College is one of the largest constituent colleges of Delhi University.

It was ranked fourth by India Today in 2019.

The college has been ranked among the top 10 colleges in the EducationWorld India Non-autonomous Colleges Rankings 2020-21.

Accommodation

The College accommodates around 200 undergraduate male students in its hostel. It has a common room, a multifaceted gym and arrangements for indoor and outdoor games. Dining facilities are managed on co-operative basis by a mess committee of resident students. Power back-up is available 24 hours a day. Medical aid is provided at the World University Service Health Centre situated nearby. Wi-Fi facility is available to all the students. Students needing hostel accommodation should apply separately on a prescribed form (available from the college hostel office) immediately after finalization of their admission to the college. Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the hostel.
